The Pan African Film Festival announced its filmmaker awards on Wednesday during a brunch ceremony.
The largest international film festival in the U.S., which opened Feb. 16 and closes Wednesday, handed out awards in seven categories:
Best picture (narrative feature): ‘Besuro’
Honorable mention: ‘The Athlete’
Documentary feature: ‘Thunder Soul’
Honorable mention: ‘War Don Don’
Short film (narrative short): ‘The Abyss Boys’
Honorable mention: ‘Hear Me’
First Feature Film (Narrative Feature): ‘I Will Follow,’ directed by Ava DuVernay
Honorable mention: ‘Hopeville,’ directed by John Trengove
Audience Award narrative feature: ‘The First Grader’
Audience Award documentary feature: ‘Gang Girl: A Mother’s Journey to Save Her Daughter’
Audience Award short film: ‘The Black Mozart in Cuba’
The ceremony also presented winners of the Pan African Film Festival Board of Directors Awards:
Best short film: ‘Precipice’
Best documentary: ‘The Manuscripts of Timbuktu’
Best feature film: ‘Viva Riva’
Honorable mentions: ‘The Child’ and ‘The Figurine’
Pan African Film Festival-British Academy of Film and Television Arts Festival Choice Award: ‘I Sing of a Well’
