‘The Rochester International Jazz Festival’

When: 3 a.m. overnight Thursday

Rating: TV-G (suitable for all ages)

This special features a performance by “The Bad Plus (With Wendy Lewis)” from the 2010 festival.

‘Independent Lens: When I Rise’

Where: KLCS

When: 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday

Rating: TV-PG (may be unsuitable for young children)

This new documentary chronicles the lifelong struggle of Barbara Smith Conrad, a gifted music student who overcame segregation and prejudice to reach the heights of international opera.
