It hasn’t been a good day for City Section basketball at the Nike Extravaganza.
Defending Division I champion Westchester couldn’t maintain a 12-point halftime lead and was beaten by Orange Lutheran, 66-63, in overtime. That’s after Los Angeles Fairfax was routed by Rialto Eisenhower. Now it will be up to Woodland Hills Taft to save face against Concord De La Salle.
Gabe York intercepted a pass and scored with 20 seconds left in overtime to break a 63-63 tie. York scored 25 points and James Douglas had 27 points for Orange Lutheran (19-6).
Robert Gsellman’s 14 points led Westchester (20-6). The Comets sent the game into overtime when Matthew Grant made one of two free throws with one second left in regulation.
