Pasadena : Debate on City Government
The current controversy over Pasadena’s form of municipal government will be debated at 7 p.m. Friday on “Pasadena Spectrum,” an hourlong monthly television program broadcast by Falcon Cable on Channel 55. Friday’s show, with Mayor William Bogaard and Larry Mantle, director of news and public affairs at KPCC radio, as hosts, will feature City Director Rick Cole and Terry Tornek, former director of planning for Pasadena. The public is encouraged to call with questions during the show, which will be simulcast on KPCC radio (89.3 FM). The telephone number is (818) 796-3667.
A grass-roots citizens group has been working for months to reorganize Pasadena’s governmental structure by soliciting signatures for a ballot measure that calls for a directly elected mayor, city attorney and city clerk, positions which now are appointive. The ballot measure also seeks to wipe out the city manager’s position. The topic of discussion for Friday’s show will be “Should Pasadena Have a Strong Elected Mayor?”
