A South-Central Los Angeles mini-market manager was wounded and his clerk was shot to death when a would-be robber wrested the manager’s gun away, police said Wednesday.
Lt. Joe Freia said the manager, Daniel Yuk, 22, brought the pistol from behind the counter when he realized that suspect Michael Jones, 23, was faking a weapon with a wooden table leg wrapped in cloth. Jones reportedly leaped behind the counter and took Yuk’s gun in the struggle, firing several shots. The clerk, Willie Dean Johnson, 36, was fatally wounded in the head as he attempted to help Yuk.
Witnesses flagged down a police car and Jones was seized as he ran from the store at Western Avenue and Century Boulevard.
