Farmers Group reported a 12% increase in first-quarter profits over the like 1985 period. It attributed the gain to improved property and casualty results. The Los Angeles company’s life insurance subsidiaries reported profits down slightly for the quarter, principally due to setbacks in its group accident and health business.
