Beck Throws No-Hitter for Grant

Rodney Beck, one of the most dominant high school pitchers in the Valley the last two seasons, pitched a no-hitter Thursday as Grant defeated Fairfax, 4-0, at Grant.
Beck, a senior right-hander, struck out eight and walked one while improving his record to 6-1. The shutout lowered his earned-run average to 1.17.
Sean Pettway’s home run in the first inning gave Grant a 2-0 lead and improved the Lancers’ East Valley League record to 10-3. Grant is a half-game behind league-leading Poly, which was idle Thursday.
Pettway and Don Hussey each had two hits for Grant.
