Young Paces OCC Swimmers to 1st-Day Lead

Jeannette Young won the one- and three-meter diving competition Friday afternoon to lead the Orange Coast College women’s swim team to a first-place standing after one day of the California State community college swimming championships in the Jewish Community Center Pool in La Jolla.
The Pirates, winners of the last two State titles, totaled 276 points to lead Diablo Valley (198 1/2), Cuesta (197), Santa Rosa (183) and Golden West (144) in the competition, which concludes today.
Orange Coast’s Audrey Levine finished second in one-meter diving and third in three-meter diving. Teammate Cheri Carpenter finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle team.
In the men’s competition, second-place Golden West (217 1/2) trails West Valley (238).
