OCC Women Win 3rd Straight State Swimming Title

Orange Coast College won an unprecedented third straight women’s State swimming championship Saturday at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.
The Pirates compiled a state-championship record 417 points, easily defeating second-place Diablo Valley (328). Santa Rosa was third (287), Questa fourth (269) and Golden West was fifth (223).
The Pirates’ team of Ginny North, Amy Hathcock, Paula Perry and Cheri Carpenter won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley.
All nine of OCC’s swimmers qualified for the finals. In men’s action, Golden West edged West Valley for the championship.
The Rustlers scored 399 1/2 to West Valley’s 396. Diablo was third with 307, followed by Saddleback (287 1/2), Chaffey (277) and Orange (213 1/2).
