The Stater Bros. board of directors met--or did it?

Jack H. Brown, the ousted president of the Colton-based grocery store chain, said there was a meeting of a new board of Stater Bros., including three Brown-backed directors who won a contested election last week. Brown said the board, among other things, reinstated him as president and elected him chairman. Stater Chairman Bernard R. Garrett, who backed a different slate of directors, said that the meeting was illegal and that Stater continues to operate under present management. A Delaware court is expected to rule next month on which side won the election.
