The quasi-public farm lender said first-quarter results reflected the ongoing recession in America’s agricultural communities. The system lost $2.7 billion in 1985. In the first quarter, the agency set aside $267 million for future loan losses with the “expectation that trends in the agricultural sector of the economy will not improve significantly in the near future.”
