As of last June, there were 598,000 people employed at high-tech companies in the state, the American Electronics Assn. reported. Jeff Parietti, spokesman for the Palo Alto-based association, said the figures were based on the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. After California, the next nine states with the largest number of electronics jobs were New York, 226,000; Massachusetts, 214,000; Texas, 157,000; New Jersey, 110,000; Illinois 108,000; Florida, 105,000; Pennsylvania, 89,000; Minnesota, 81,000, and Arizona, 63,000.
