TRUCKEE, Calif. — A Tahoma, Calif., couple were killed and the couple with whom they shared their home were injured when their vehicles collided head-on while they were waving to each other from opposite lanes on California 89 near here.
The California Highway Patrol said Tuesday that James and Diane Goerke’s pickup truck swerved into the path of Jonathon and Cheryl Tully’s automobile, and the Tullys were killed and their children, ages 3 and 6 years, were injured.
The Goerkes also were hurt, but their 5-month-old son escaped injury because he was in a child-restraint seat, the CHP said.
All the injured were reported in serious condition at Tahoe Forest Hospital.
