Budget Revolt
Robert Conot’s article (Opinion, April 20), “Silicon Valley Mounts a Defense-Budget Revolt,” merits front-page attention. It daily becomes more apparent that the over-balanced under-productive use of human as well as technological resources by the military makes us more vulnerable to disaster than threats by foreign powers.
Conot further makes a brilliant case for passage of HR 229, the Defense Economic Adjustment Act, which would create a national plan for conversion of military-dependent plants to civilian productive use. Without such advance planning, our economy teeters on the edge of destruction.
