Killer of Mother to Ask Release From Hospital

A young Rancho Palos Verdes man who was found innocent by reason of insanity in the 1983 clubbing death of his mother will appear before Torrance Superior Court Judge Cecil Mills on May 30 to ask that he be released from Patton State Hospital and treated as an outpatient, authorities said Tuesday.
Michael D. Miller, 22, the son of President Reagan’s former personal attorney, Roy D. Miller, first was found guilty by Mills of killing his mother, Marguerite, 52. The jurist then ruled that he was not sane at the time of the slaying and committed him to Patton.
