The driver of a van struck a motorcycle from behind in Sun Valley on Monday, killing a passenger on the cycle and seriously injuring its operator, then fled, Los Angeles police reported.
Jesus Aldava, 18, of Sun Valley, was tossed from the cycle when it was hit by the van on Sunland Boulevard near Nettleton Street, said Los Angeles Police Officer Rick Vigil.
Aldava, who suffered massive internal injuries, died at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, a hospital spokeswoman said. The driver of the cycle, Felipe L. Diaz, 22, also of Sun Valley, was in serious condition Tuesday at the same hospital.
Vigil said witnesses said the cycle was traveling north on Sunland when it was struck from behind by a Ford van. The witnesses noted the license number of the van, Vigil said.
