Community College Baseball : OCC Clinches Conference Title

Orange Coast College clinched the South Coast Conference baseball title with a 30-3 victory over Compton College Tuesday at Compton.
The Pirates (19-3 in conference, 30-7 overall) scored in every inning, including six runs in the third and six in the ninth to rout the Tartans (0-22 in conference).
OCC’s Rob Gib went 5 for 7 with four RBIs and hit for the cycle--a single, double, triple and home run. Joey James went 5 for 8 with four RBIs and hit his 18th home run of the season, tying a conference record.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Rancho Santiago 7, Cypress 6--Bob Brucato hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom the ninth to clinch second place and a berth in the state regional playoffs for the Dons (15-6, 26-10). Mitch Schawbe (11-1) came into pitch the top of the ninth and picked up the win. Matt Beltran, who singled and scored on Brucato’s sacrifice, was 3 for 5, scored three runs and had an RBI. Brucato was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Pat Longo and Bert Lizarraga homered for the Chargers.
Fullerton 10, Golden West 9 (10 innings)--A bases-loaded, two-out error by Rustler second baseman George Medina in the top of the 10th allowed Anthony Moreno to score from third and give the Hornets (13-9, 19-15) the victory at Golden West. Fullerton had tied the score 9-9 in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Mike Alvarez.
The Hornets’ Jon Rice went 5 for 5 with 3 RBIs and Keith Kaub hit his 16th homer of the year.
