The American Film Institute will offer two music video awards--sponsored by Warner Bros. Records and music video artist-producer Michael Nesmith--as part of a series of new awards for video production and advanced training at the AFI Television Workshop.
The Warner Bros. Records Award will involve a competition among video directors on their prior media work. The deadline for submitting applications and film or video samples is June 4.
The Michael Nesmith Award will be given to a video director/musician team that is familiar with each other’s works. Together, the team must submit samples of prior music and media work along with a one-page concept for a music video collaboration. The deadline is set for Aug. 15.
Winners of both awards will be given the opportunity to create original music videos. In addition, the recipients will receive production grants, the support of professional advisers from the video and music fields and access to state-of-the-art video facilities at the AFI Sony Video Center.
