Christopher Crawford, 33, has been appointed administrator for the South Bay Municipal Court in Torrance.

Presiding Judge Sandra Thompson said Crawford, who currently manages court services for the Los Angeles Municipal Court, was selected from among 35 applicants. The job pays $51,128 annually.

Crawford replaces William Ayers, who resigned last year to practice law.

A Redondo Beach resident, Crawford attended Citrus College in Azusa and is enrolled in the executive development program at the Institute for Court Management in Denver. He has worked for the Los Angeles Municipal Court for more than 13 years.

The South Bay Municipal Court has six judges and two commissioners. Crawford will supervise 66 employees and be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the court’s various divisions.

David C. Salazar has been elected commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3261 in Gardena.

As part of National Volunteers Week, April 20-27, Barbara Smith of Hawthorne was honored at a luncheon for volunteers by Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center.

A volunteer since 1975, Smith has given more than 13,000 hours to the center. Also recognized were Dottie Williams of Inglewood, who has given more than 12,000 hours, and Helen Vedder of Hawthorne, who recently passed the 10,000-hour mark.

San Pedro Peninsula Hospital also thanked its volunteers, especially Peggy McNary, who has given 12,000 hours of her time, Irene Johnson who has given 11,000 hours, and Mildred Kruger and Paula Androvich, who each have served 10,000 hours as volunteers.

California State University, Dominguez Hills, gave a Silver Anniversary Award for support of the university to state Sen. Ralph C. Dills of Gardena.

Gloria Wall will receive a commendation from the Harbor District Boy Scouts of America at their 10th Citizen of the Year banquet May 17. Wall, a longtime resident of the Harbor area, is being honored for her contributions to the community and her prominence in local business.
