A transient suspected by police of seven murders was arraigned in three of the cases in Martinez. John Sapp, 33, was charged with killing Elizabeth Duarte, who vanished from her Richmond home five years ago; John Abono, 21, who disappeared in Concord in 1975, and Robert Weber, 34, who was shot to death in Colusa County last August. Sapp has led police to a Contra Costa County hillside site where he reportedly said he buried his victims. Human bones were recovered. Police believe Sapp also killed his mother. Remains believed to be hers were found last week near Oroville.
