Plywood Blows Off Truck, Kills Driver in Car
- Share via
A sheet of plywood blew off a truck on the southbound Long Beach Freeway Thursday and flew through the windshield of a northbound automobile, striking the driver in the head and killing him, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers said driver Sung Mee, 47, of South Laguna, appeared to have died instantly, but his automobile continued in the fast lane of the freeway, its front end against the center divider, until it finally stalled and stopped nearly a mile from the spot where the plywood struck it.
Two other drivers used their cars to block traffic from the victim’s car, and called the CHP, but there appeared to be no witnesses and officers said the truck driver probably never knew anything had happened, and continued on his way without stopping.
