La Jolla Puts Perfect End to Its Track Season

The La Jolla High School boys’ track team finished its dual-meet season with a 7-0 record by defeating Kearny, 93-45, Friday at La Jolla.
Manute Barragan beat La Jolla junior Tom Porter in the 880 with a time of 1:59.3. Porter made his move at the 660-yard mark, but could not hold on.
Kearny’s Steve Archer beat Braden Brush in the 440 with a time of 50.1. In the mile relay, Brush took the baton with a 12-yard lead, and despite Archer’s 49.5 last leg, La Jolla (3:28.9) won by three yards.
In another Western League meet, Jerry Black won three events as the University City boys defeated Clairemont, 113-21. Black won the long jump (21-2), 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.2) and the 110 high hurdles (15.4).
The University City girls defeated Clairemont, 111-6. Laura Chapel won the 200 (27.7), 800 (2:25.4) and 3,200 (11:15.0).
