Andy Ruscitto, a senior at Valencia High School, tied the Southern Section career home run record Friday by hitting the 21st of his three-year varsity career in the Tigers’ 2-1 loss to Anaheim at Anaheim.
Ruscitto lined the record-tying homer off the Colonists’ Will Barber in the fourth inning of the teams’ regular season finale to tie the record set by Jay Reid, who played at Lynwood from 1976-80.
It was the left-handed batter’s sixth home run of the season. Last season, Ruscitto set the Orange County single-season record with 12. He hit three as a sophomore.
Earlier this year, Ruscitto broke the county record of 16 set by Joey McKay, who played at Villa Park from 1981-82.
