KICK BACK
In response to Nick Newton’s narrow-minded and insensitive comments regarding Richard Pryor (Calendar Letters, May 4), I do care that Pryor has kicked his habits (drinking, cocaine).
I also care about the man next door who kicks a habit. I have great admiration and respect for anyone who turns their life around and away from self-destructive behavior.
While my “vile personal habit” isn’t drinking or drugs, the pain I feel as a result is the same. I applaud famous people or anyone else who goes public with their recovery as an example for others. Pryor is an inspiration for me and many others.
I suggest Newton crawl back under his rock. People like him need help just as much as the rest of us.
