A rock slide along California 89 at Emerald Bay, one of the most frequently visited tourist spots near Lake Tahoe, is expected to keep the road closed until Memorial Day, state Department of Transportation officials said. The state will spend $200,000 to clean up the 12,000 to 15,000 cubic yards of dirt and boulders, some so large that they will have to be blasted before being moved.
