Arthur Risser, a leader of efforts to save the rare California condor, was named general manager of the San Diego Zoo. Risser replaces James Bacon, who died April 4 after only three months on the job. Risser said he planned to continue Bacon’s plans to shift the popular zoo away from show-oriented entertainment and toward more realistic displays of animals in their natural habitat.
