Business Center in Oxnard Will Include Trade School

OXNARD — A new trade and technical school is among the first 135 buildings planned for a $200-million commercial-industrial development at Channel Islands Business Center here.
Up to 400 students are expected to attend when the new Golden State School opens in October at Rose and Emerson avenues.
Other Golden State Schools are in Simi Valley, Santa Monica, Anaheim, San Bernardino and Bakersfield.
Designed by Development Concepts of Westlake Village, the 32,000-square-foot building also will serve as corporate administrative headquarters.
Golden State was created in 1977 by Statewide Oilfield Construction Inc. as a private institution to teach welding, and has expanded to include electronic assembly and technologies, plastic lamination and optics. Future plans call for the school to add other occupational courses.
“There is an immediate demand by industry for skilled workers with specialized education,” according to James Creech, president of Golden State School.
TOLD Construction Co. Inc. of Camarillo, which will build the school, is developing the 225-acre Channel Islands Business Center. When completed in 1996, the center will be home for approximately 139 businesses and industries and provide an estimated 8,000 jobs, according to Hank Urbach of TOLD Corp.
