Offensive tackle Gary Zimmerman filed suit in Hennepin County District Court in Minneapolis against the United States Football League and two of its franchises, contending he is free to negotiate with the team of his choice, the Minnesota Vikings.
The Los Angeles Express and the Memphis Showboats are the other defendants in the suit. Zimmerman, considered the USFL’s top offensive linemen, asked the court’s help in being freed from any obligation to a USFL team. The Showboats contend he became their property after the Express folded.
