UCLA Beats USC, 6-4, to Clinch Title

Bill Haselman had three hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in two runs as UCLA defeated USC, 6-4, Saturday at Dedeaux Field to win the Pacific 10 Conference Southern Division baseball championship.
With the victory, UCLA improved its conference record to 20-9 and its overall mark to 38-21. The Bruins lead Stanford by two games with one to play.
USC fell to 12-17 and 26-26.
UCLA’s Mike Magnanate (2-0) gave up four hits and a run in six innings to earn the victory. Trojan starter John Reilley (2-7) was tagged for three runs and five hits in 3 innings.
Haselman drilled a two-run shot in the first inning, and the Bruins built a 5-1 lead by the fifth.
Bobby Holly had three hits, including two triples, for UCLA.
Brian Brooks hit a three-run homer for USC in the eighth inning.
