Community College Baseball : Cerritos Upsets Orange Coast

Cerritos College scored five runs in the eighth inning Saturday to upset South Coast Conference baseball champion Orange Coast, 5-4, at Cerritos.
After entering the eighth trailing, 4-0, the Falcons rallied as Greg Mannion and Brian Hunter each drove in a run. Cerritos (14-10) tied the score when a run scored on a passed ball and scored the eventual winning run on Adam Buder’s second hit.
The Falcons had 12 hits, including three by Mannion and two by Hunter. John Rodriguez pitched a complete game for the victory, striking out three and giving up nine hits.
Dave Staton of OCC (20-4, 31-8) hit a solo homer in the sixth.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Rancho Santiago 9, Saddleback 4--Reuben Gonzalez homered and doubled for four RBIs and Frank Appice scored four runs for the Dons (18-6, 29-8) at Rancho Santiago. Mike Sanders (3-0) pitched six innings for the win, allowing four hits. Steve Lipton hit a homer for Saddleback.
