Costa Mesa’s Ropp Is High Scorer in Gymnastics Events

Ricki Ropp of Costa Mesa High School was the high scorer in the all-around competition at the Southern Section girls’ gymnastics individual preliminaries Saturday at Cypress High School.
Ropp, who scored a 37.00, was the area’s top qualifier for Saturday’s all-around finals at Arroyo High School in El Monte.
Brea-Olinda’s Tracy Valko (36.60) was second, Carrie Bourne (36.55) of Savanna was third, Julie Williams (35.8) of Cypress was fourth and San Clemente’s Dena Mills and Dana Hills’ Kym Serafino (35.75) tied for fifth.
Qualifying to compete in individual events at the finals were Tustin’s Paula Myers (vault), Dana Hills’ Char Stringer and Capistrano Valley’s Patti Reinitz (beam), and San Clemente’s Julie Gearing (floor exercise) and Lori DeLuca (bars).
