Giving Way

In a recent conversation with a representative of the American airline, TWA, I was surprised to learn that bookings from the United States to Europe- and especially to Britain-are down by something like 30% on last year. I understand that hotel reservations in London have been similarly affected.
I am told that the reason for this decline is fear of terrorism. If this be true it is more shocking than surprising. I had the impression that Americans don’t believe in giving way to terrorist blackmail. But would it not be true to say that everyone who avoids Europe for this reason is handing Moammar Kadafi a small but significant victory?
