Mark Johnston, skipper of the Columbia-34 yacht Primera, was the winner of the Los Angeles Times Trophy at the conclusion of a seven-race series for the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet Sunday.
The Times Series is sailed in conjunction with Los Angeles Yacht Club’s Whitney Series for International Offshore Rule (IOR) ratings and the Little Whitney Series for Midget Ocean Racing Club (MORC) yachts 30 feet and under.
The Times trophy is one of the oldest yachting awards in Southern California, dating back to 1903 when it was dedicated by Harrison Gray Otis.
Winner of the Whitney Trophy was Crazy Horse, skippered by Larry Harvey of Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. The winner of the Little Whitney was Cowboy, co-skippered by Stan and Stacy Gibbs (CBYC).
Callisto, skippered by Jim Eddy (LAYC), was the winner of the International Measurement System class, a new rating formula entered in the Whitney Series for the first time this year.
