Kodak’s British subsidiary will lay off 900 workers.

The cuts in the 7,600-person work force are aimed at heading off Japanese competition for Kodak’s highly profitable film and photographic paper business, company spokeswoman Patricia Hansom said. The job cuts will be made at three factories and at Kodak’s headquarters and distribution center north of London.
