Fountain Valley Tops Softball Seeds

The Fountain Valley High School softball team, 21-4 and champion of the Sunset League, received the top seed in the CIF Southern Section 4-A division playoffs beginning Thursday at 3 p.m. The Barons will play host to Long Beach Wilson (10-12), the Moore League’s No. 3 team. San Gabriel Valley champion Gahr (21-0), the second seed, will be host to Canyon (15-10), the Century League’s No. 3 team.
The third seed went to Edison (22-5), the Sunset League’s No. 2 team, which will host the Bay League’s No. 2 team, Redondo (10-6). Fourth-seeded Empire League champion Cypress (22-5) will play host to the winner of Wednesday’s wild-card game between South Torrance (10-7) and St. Paul (14-7).
The 3-A division and 2-A division first-round games begin at 3 p.m. Friday. The top 3-A seed went to Sea View League champion Woodbridge (17-3). The Warriors will play host to Walnut (15-5), the Sierra League’s No. 3 team. Bay League champion La Mirada (18-3) received the second seed, and Garden Grove (17-4), the Garden Grove League champion, was the No. 3 seed. The Argonauts will play host to University (11-5), the Sea View League’s No. 3 team. Freeway League champion Sunny Hills (13-3) was the fourth seed, and will play host to Glenn (14-6), the Suburban League’s No. 3 team.
El Toro, the South Coast League champion, received the No. 2 seed in the 2-A division. The Chargers (19-5) will play host to Whittier (9-9), the No. 2 Whitmont League team Friday.
