No. 1 Simi Valley Opens 4-A Baseball Playoffs Against Pasadena Muir

Simi Valley High School, ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball, was named Monday as the top-seeded team for the Southern Section 4-A baseball playoffs, which will begin with wild-card games Wednesday.
The Pioneers (23-3) will play host to Pasadena Muir (14-7) in the first round Friday. Fountain Valley, the defending champion, did not make the playoffs this season.
La Habra Sonora (24-1) is the No. 1 team in the 3-A, with defending champion Diamond Bar (19-4) leading the 2-A, Montclair Prep of Van Nuys (20-3) atop the 1-A and Providence of Burbank (19-2) top ranked in the Small Schools.
Championship games for the top four divisions will be held May 31 at Dodger Stadium, with the the Small Schools Division contest set for May 30 at an alternate site.
In the Southern Section softball playoffs, the top-seeded teams are Fountain Valley (21-4) of the 4-A, Irvine Woodbridge (17-3) of the 3-A, Covina Charter Oak (23-1) of the 2-A, Yucaipa (20-2) of the 1-A and Pasadena Poly (16-4) of the Small Schools.
Gahr of Cerritos (21-0) is the only undefeated team in the 4-A Division and the No. 2 seed. The Gladiators, the San Gabriel Valley League champion, play host to Canyon of Anaheim (15-10) on Friday.
All title games will be played either May 30 or 31 at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
