AMI Files Fraud Lawsuit Against Group of Doctors

American Medical International Inc. filed a $73-million securities fraud and racketeering lawsuit Tuesday against a group of doctors and others who are attempting to buy Anaheim General Hospital.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles federal court, alleges that the defendants “embarked on a joint scheme and conspiracy to force AMI to sell its stock . . . to defendants at below-market value.”
Beverly Hills-based AMI alleges that the doctors organized a “group boycott” of Anaheim General to reduce the number of patients and force profits to fall so they could acquire the hospital at a lower price.
About three weeks ago, the doctors and other shareholders filed suit in Orange County Superior Court, attempting to block the sale of Anaheim General to the Jupiter Hospital Corp.
