Three armed men robbed a Clairemont jewelry store Wednesday, taking more than $50,000 in watches, rings and necklaces, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Rollin Arthur, the 77-year-old father of the store’s owner, was the only person in McGirr’s Jewelers in the 3000 block of Clairemont Drive when the robbery occurred. Arthur told police that a man about 25 years old, wearing a business suit, entered the store shortly after noon and asked to see some watches, Robinson said.
The man then brandished a handgun, at which time a second man, about 35 years old, wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans, entered the store. The two men tied Arthur up and emptied the display cases, Robinson said. They escaped in an older-model gray van, driven by a third man.
