This Joyner Supporter Drives Home a Point

I have just finished reading a Viewpoint letter on the Rod Carew-Wally Joyner comparisons. I tend to agree that it is unfair to compare the two. I’d much rather have a fun-loving rookie that can hit than a singles-hitting veteran that never came through in the clutch.
Give me a team of nine Wally Joyners to play a team of nine Rod Carews, and 9 out of 10 times Wally will be on top. I don’t know what the “intangibles” were that Carew performed, but I for one don’t even notice his being gone.
