Seal Beach : Psychiatrists Examine Man Taken in Barricade

A 27-year-old Long Beach man who barricaded himself in a Leisure World apartment Friday is undergoing a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation, Seal Beach police said Saturday.
Nicomedes L. Zapanta was taken into custody by a SWAT team that forced its way into an apartment on Golden Rain Road after a 2 1/2-hour standoff. Zapanta, identified by Leisure World security officers as an attendant to a resident of the gated community, had earlier brandished a handgun, police said.
