Ice Cream Trucks
On a recent visit to Dallas I was surprised and pleased to see that all neighborhood ice cream trucks are equipped with flashing red roof lights, and rear doors that display octagonal, red stop signs when opened.
It also appears that ice cream truck operators are required to participate in a school safety program and are subject to vigorous regulations regarding safety.
The thousands of virtually unmarked and unregulated trucks that cruise Los Angeles neighborhoods selling ice cream, are tragedies waiting to happen.
Los Angeles would do well to follow the enlightened lead of Dallas in this sort of safety regulation, before it is brought home in an ugly and unnecessary way.
