Regarding the plight of the two Salinas High School girls who had to attend their senior prom with each other (probably because their boyfriends are too cheap to rent a tux and buy a corsage) was a very funny story.
In June of 1984 my boyfriend stood me up for my prom, so I invited my friend Jenny to go with me. Sure we raised a few eyebrows, but so what? We had a great time and my Dad bought us the corsages.
A Times staff photographer came over and interviewed me, took my picture, which appeared on the prom fashion page that month. Also, a cute article about the two of us was also included.
North Hollywood High School has survived me, and I’m sure that these two lovely girls will not be an embarrassment to Salinas High.
