The reputed boss of the nation’s largest Mafia family went to jail in New York after a federal appeals court refused to stop a lower court judge from revoking his $1-million bail. The appeals court agreed, however, to hear further arguments on John Gotti’s case late next week, raising the possibility that he may yet be released before the start of his racketeering trial, scheduled for August. Gotti became the boss of the Gambino organized crime family after the unsolved slaying last December of Paul Castellano, according to law enforcement authorities.
