MANILA — A friend of Ferdinand E. Marcos today surrendered $3 million to President Corazon Aquino in the government’s drive to recover money allegedly plundered by the deposed president and his associates, the presidential palace said.
The money from Jose Campos, handed over in exchange for immunity from prosecution, is the first to go into the government treasury from the billions of dollars allegedly amassed by Marcos and his friends. The money represented dividends from Philippine Communications Satellite Corp., one of 180 Philippine companies allegedly owned by Marcos or his cronies.
