The University of Nebraska softball team was disqualified from the NCAA playoffs because a redshirt player traveled with the team and because Coach Wayne Daigle bought a meal for a recruit and her parents, the Lincoln (Neb.) Star reported.
The violations involved Amy Love, a junior co-captain for the Cornhuskers, and freshman Jane Kremer, an All-Big Eight shortstop. Last Friday, the NCAA ruled that both players were ineligible this season, but they will be eligible next year, a spokesman for the NCAA legislative services said.
The Star reported that Love made a bus trip to New Mexico with the team during the 1983-84 season, which she sat out.
