Canyons Faces Butte to Open Title Round of State Tournament

College of the Canyons, which swept Harbor in the southern regional over the weekend, will play Butte of Northern California at 2 p.m. Friday in the state community college championship baseball tournament at Blair Field in Long Beach.
Canyons (36-5) is seeded No. 2 in the double-elimination tournament, and Butte (31-7) is seeded seventh. San Mateo (30-7) is seeded No. 1.
Last season, Canyons finished second to state champion Cerritos.
Also on Friday, Sacramento City (27-8-1) will play Long Beach (23-12), at Blair Field at 7 p.m. At 10 a.m., Rancho Santiago (30-8) will play Merced (23-12) at Cal State Long Beach. San Mateo will play San Diego Mesa (33-6) at 10 a.m. at Blair Field.
If Canyons wins, it will play the winner of the Long Beach-Sacramento City game Saturday at 2 p.m. at Blair Field. If the Cougars lose, they will play the loser of the Long Beach-Sacramento game at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.
