After completing the season undefeated, Taft High expected to breeze through the two-day City golf tournament on its way to a shot at the Southern California Golf Assn. championship next month at Lakeside Golf Club.
It didn’t work out that way for the Toreadors. They not only lost the City title to Palisades, but failed to qualify for the SCGA tournament.
Taft finished third in the two-day tournament, which ended Tuesday, with a score of 813. Palisades won the championship with an 804, followed by North Hollywood at 810. Taft defeated both teams twice during the season, finishing 10-0. Palisades and North Hollywood will compete June 9 in the SCGA tournament along with 10 other City golfers who qualified for the individual portion of the tournament.
Heading the list is North Hollywood’s Chris Barbour, who won his second straight City title with a two-day total of 153. Mark Nielson of Palisades was second at 154.
Qualifying for Taft were Marc Riches (156), Danny Greenberg (159) and John Hartung (163).
