Rowland No-Hits Newbury Park, 9-1
It was looking pretty good for Newbury Park after three innings of its Southern Section 4-A baseball playoff game against Rowland on Tuesday. Pitcher Glenn Evans had a shutout going and had allowed only one hit.
The only problem was, Newbury Park didn’t have a hit against Rowland pitcher Albert DeLaIsalaj--and it never got one.
Rowland defeated Newbury Park, 9-1, after exploding for seven runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. Newbury Park’s only run scored on an error.
It was DeLaIsalaj who started Rowland’s eruption in the fourth with a home run. The next batter, Mike Villagran, also homered, and the rout was on.
Newbury Park, the third-place team from the Marmonte League, ended the season with a 11-12-1 record. Rowland is 15-6.
