The City Council scheduled a second public hearing for Tuesday to hear comments before submitting an application for federal funds for a proposed hotel.
The city will request $2.2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to purchase property and make off-site improvements in an area south of the Bicycle Club, said City Manager Claude Booker. The city is building a parking lot and is now reviewing plans for a 150- to 200-room hotel with banquet facilities in the area between Eastern Avenue and the Long Beach Freeway and between Florence Avenue and Priory Street.
