Ailing Congressman Quits Race

WASHINGTON — Republican Rep. John E. Grotberg of Illinois, who is recovering from a coma he suffered earlier this year, is ending his bid for a second term, an aide announced today. Grotberg, 61, made the decision after doctors at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago told him that his recovery was too slow to permit a vigorous campaign schedule.
